5 years of incarceration: Muslim Deeni Mahaz stages protest seeking release of Qasim Faktoo

Srinagar: Muslim Deeni Mahaz today staged a peaceful protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar demanding the release of Dr Qasim Faktoo, the husband of Aasiya Andrabi who completed 25 years in prison yesterday.

The activists who carried placards and banners expressed concern over the “prolonged” detention of Muslim Deeni Mahaz chairperson Dr Qasim Faktoo sentenced to life imprisonment.

The protesters said: “Government is scared of releasing Dr Qasim because of his conviction towards the goal of freedom for which he has completed 25 years in jail.”

They said that his incarceration “is just a political vendetta”.

We appeal to “conscientious” people of the world and human rights organizations to impress upon the government of India to release Dr Qasim and others serving the life imprisonment in different Indian jails.
