Srinagar, Mar 5, CNS: In wake of steep rise in cases of stomach and esophageal cancers in Kashmir one day workshop was organized at Star Hospital Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion renowned Gastrointestinal surgeon Dr Mir Sammiullah stressed upon devising a strategy for gastric and esophageal screening on the pattern of Japanese concept.
Dr Sammiullah said that Japan by screening the population has been able to massively reduce the mortality from gastric cancers by detecting it in very early stages
In this regard Dr Sammiullah will be doing endoscopy camps across the state. When asked about the cause of rise in cancers in Kashmir, he said it is because of our dietary habits particularly high salt intake and other gastric irritants like very spicy foods .He further said that Hpylori infection can be seen as one of the potential causes.
